If your teenage girl has her heart set on a I Dream of Jeannie teenage bedroom theme that seems to popped out of the magic lamp and a big cloud of smoke, your best bet is to start with a exotic Moroccan style bedding set that you and your team can agree on.
You know, I don't have a clue as to what Jeannie's nationality was and it really doesn't make a lot of difference, does it? It's just that when I think of her round bottle that Major Nelson found on the beach with the harem inside it brings Moroccan decor to mind.
From that point the Moroccan decorating project will get easier than you could've imagined in your wildest dreams. If I seem to have been hitting the hookah pipe here that me clarify my last remarks.
THE UNUSUAL and UNEXPECTED
Take a slightly less than perfect Oriental rug and use it to decorate the bedroom ceilings by attaching it securely on each end and then tufting it with carefully spaced tacks hammered in a few of the medallions to hide the nail heads. The effect will be that the rug is floating. What a cool (and sinfully cheap) teen girl's decorating tip for a 60s, 70s or Moroccan decor!
LIGHTING WITH MIDDLE EASTERN MOROCCAN MYSTIQUE
Remember Aladdin's lamp? Or do you remember those lanterns that everybody had hanging in at least one of the corners of their bedrooms back in the 1960s and 70s? Your mom or maybe even your grandmother probably decided that the colored glass lanterns with the gold plastic electrical cords threaded through them were tacky shortly after she received them as a Christmas gift. However, being a good mom felt guilty tossing them and all their fake imported antique splendor in the trash because one of her precious children gave her the treasures. Now's the time to go digging in those boxes and bring those vintage light fixtures back into a place of honor. If you have absolutely no ideas in your head as to what I'm rambling on about, here's a picture of a more tasteful and modern antique replica of a Moroccan lantern.
Hang a beaded canopy over your exotic Moroccan bedding set by an ornate hook drilled into the ceiling and drape the gauzy fabrics on each side of the bed and everywhere else in the bedroom that you have something to hang it on. If you have lots of silky fabric in rainbow colors on hand you can gather it on the walls.
Now, throw some large floor pillows on the floor in coordinating jewel tones and your work is done! Buy your teen a belly dancer costume for Halloween and let her host a harem party in her fabulous Moroccan theme bedroom retreat.
