The Exorcism of the Waves by Alessandro Magnasco, 1735

Violent. Beautiful.

Freaky and Cool

I don't read French so I can't tell you any details, but this artist, Maissa Toulet, has created these really freaky and cool Cabinets de Curiousites and all you can do is marvel at them. I encourage you to check out her site to see these and more in a much larger size.

The Day Dream

I want to sit in this green, leafy copse with a book and while away an afternoon.

At the Moulin Rouge
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1892/1895

I just love the lady on the right with her fashionable black hat, puff sleeves, and high collar. I'd love to be her for an hour.

Le Bouquet Ardent

There is something about Chagall's whimsy and use of color that speaks to me.

Cafe Terrace at Night or Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum
Vincent Van Gogh, 1888

You know that question, "If you could transport yourself into any painting, what painting would you choose?" I would choose this one.

Artist Kevin Baker

I was reading Interview Magazine and there was a small article on Kevin Baker, an up and coming artist from Kentucky who is now working in NYC. I think his paintings are amazing. He is inspired by the kitschy oilcloths that his grandmother used to cover everything with because they were easy to clean. He uses floral oilcloths as his canvas and then paints over them. I think these are beautiful, romantic, whimsical, and heady. I LOVE.
