GIRLS DORM BEDDING IDEAS

Ok, college kicks off in my area early next week and I'm still looking for girls dorm bedding ideas for two girls' rooms. YIKES! The good news is that they are not divas who are pitching ego-maniacal hissy fits. They just want their dorm rooms to look cool and are willing to wait for the perfect bedding set.

Leave it to me to save the most challenging design project until the last minute. And in case you're wondering why I'm here typing away on my decorating blog rather than in the mall or online looking for comforter sets for these girls I want to tell you that I have a really good excuse.

It's hot and I just don't feel like it right now. Yeah, that might sound lame to you but the heat index here is over 116 and it has left me exhausted. That being said, I saw a cute example of dorm room decor for sorority girls that you might be interested in so take a look and let me know what you think while I'm cooling off and trying to come up with some girls dorm bedding ideas before time runs out on me.

Red and Pink Bedding

I thought I had just found the perfect set of red and pink bedding for a teenage girl's bedroom that I'm decorating. Take a good look at the pictures...do you see a red and pink comforter set? Well, at first glance I surely did only to take a second look and realize that the actual comforter and shams are white, pink and green. There may be a tiny touch of red in the center of the flowers that you can't see very well, but it may be hot pink.

The point is that the red upholstered headboard of the bed, the red dust ruffle and that funky looking wooly mirror that's hung over the head of the bed fooled me into thinking that I had found THE pink and red bedding set that would solve all my problems.

I wonder if I can convince the young lady to accept this red and pink bedding set and more importantly, convince her mom to pay for a padded red headboard.
The girl's taste in bedroom colors ranges in the warm (ya think?) side of the color wheel thus the request for a hot pink and red room design. In my opinion, the field of white with cool green stems on the flowers are what will make the girls bedding set work.

FUNKY PINK BEDDING

A mom I'm working with says she wants her teen girl's bedding to be pink while FUNKY PINK BEDDING is more in line with what's on her daughter's radar. I have a knack for getting in the middle of the battle of wills between teenage girls and their mothers, don't I?

lime green hot pink sheer curtains bedroom window treatments drapes pattern ideas

The problem is that moms want to hang onto their baby girls as long as possible which means they want to keep the pastel pink bedroom in tact long after the toddler stage. When tweens and preteen girls are ready to jazz things up a bit the bedroom makeover can get ugly.

My job is to reach a compromise if at all possible and my advice to parents is to let the girls have their funky pink bedding! There are so many bigger (and more important) issues that so long as the lime green and funky pink bedding is tasteful why sweat the small stuff?

How do you like these lime green and pink curtains with the lime green and hot pink bedding in the pictures? I tried all pink as well as all lime green window treatments but I believe the combination of the two colors actually works better with the teen girls bedding. What do you think?

TROPICAL BEDDING

pink and green hibiscus tropical hawaiian bedding teen girls bedroom white set comforter

I’m still snuggling up in my bed surrounded by flannel at night, but lately tropical bedding is dancing through my brain like sugarplums. The chill of winter is still in the air so I’m not making my move to lighten things up for spring and summer in my own bedroom just yet.

But it’s a completely different story when it comes to bedroom decorating ideas for my clients. Most of the moms decorating rooms for their teen girls that I have met with recently have homes that are a work in progress yet they are enthusiastically gathering decorative possibilities for tropical bedrooms even though the work is a few months out.

Thankfully, lots of the stores have already rolled out some very cute tropical bedding sets with hibiscus flowers and pretty pink and green color schemes. One thing I’ve noticed is that hot pink seems to be cooling down just a touch. The shade of pink that is taking its place is more of a watermelon color and it looks fantastic with a honey dew melon shade of green as well as lime green. The requests for bold colors will probably pick up later in the year but for now the tropical bedding sets are fresh as an ocean breeze.

Have you picked out your comforter set or got your eye on a bed in a bag set in spring colors? Why don’t you take a minute and tell the visitors at Teen Girls Bedding and Bedroom Decorating Ideas about it?

BALLERINA BEDDING for GIRLS

hot pink lime green ballerina bedding bed bag set in a bedroom picture

I can breathe a sigh of relief that I found this set of ballerina bedding for girls that is anything but wimpy. To give you a little background on that remark (and to let you know why I haven't been forthcoming with any new bedding sets and bedroom decorating ideas lately), a lady across town was building a fabulous home that a friend of mine was contracted to decorate from top to bottom. After much begging, she actually let me go with her one day when she was taking some measurements on the window sizes and the owner and I were introduced.

Long story short, my friend caught the flu and needed me to take the job and finish it which thrilled me to no end because the owner seemed sweet and the home was to die for...and then I met the teen diva in residence. This teenage girl was amazingly certain about what colors she wanted in her room AND that she wanted ballerina bedding for girls that WAS NOT wimpy! How a young girl could be so opinionated at such a young age about bedding was almost scary. But EUREKA!!! I found this set and if (and that's a pretty darn big if) she approves it my work is done.

One trend I see in bedroom decorating ideas is that teen girls bedding in pastels is falling behind bright colors. Wait to see if this holds true through summer before you make plans to follow this fashion trend.

LIME GREEN DAMASK BEDDING

I knew that I had to show you this pink and lime green damask bedding ensemble by Serena and Lily called Caroline when I saw how unbelievably cheap it's priced when compared to similar girls' bedding sets that I've used in past projects.

A client's daughter texted me to tell me that she had found some bedding that she loved on a website that I had recommended. I had suggested several places that she might find some girls lime green bedroom ideas and this was at the high end of all the possibilities on the list. This particular site has some scrumptious, stylish bed linens that I usually love working with but I happened to know that this teenage girl's mom is working with a rather tight budget and I was afraid that this young lady had fallen in love with expensive bedding that was out of her price range.

Imagine how pleased I am to see that the pink, white and lime green damask bedding set is perfect for her room and that the comforter set is not the inexpensive bed in a bag that her mom had in mind, it's less than $200 and there is currently a FREE SHIPPING offer. Plus this teen girls' lime green damask bedding set will work just fine with the existing white walls which eliminates the need to re-paint.

Teal Green and Orange Bedding for Girls

Aqua or teal green and orange bedding for girls is striking, but throw in some hot pink, floral prints and retro rickrack trim and the look is sure to knock any tween or teen right off her feet. Standing alone the cool shades of blue in the aqua and teal bedroom decorations could hardly be considered memorable much less dramatic. And teenage girls are known to love drama. I ask you, who am I to deny a young girl the decor of her dreams? The problem is figuring out how to make her happy without wrecking the layout of the home’s color palette.

After a walkthrough of a client’s home it was obvious that the mom of twin girls had a love for the cool blues and greens that you might associate with the ocean. It was just as clear to me that the curtains, upholstery fabrics and floor coverings called for some warm colored accents to create a balance. A few throw pillows and decorative items displayed on the tabletops and shelves were all that it took and my client was impressed with the results.

She was so pleased that when I made the bold recommendation of decorating her twins’ bedrooms with bright teal green and orange bedding for girls I got the go ahead without the argument that might have otherwise been forthcoming. This is a perfect example of a time when offering a few hours of decorating advice free of charge pays off big time. If I had not taken the time to prove that I knew a few things about balancing colors (for a very cheap price I might add) the lady might have fainted when I suggested teal green and orange striped bedding lay the groundwork for the color scheme in her teenage girls’ bedroom.

Her daughters adored the hodgepodge of polka dots, stripes and funky floral bedding fabric and I came off looking like a decorating genius which does not hurt my feelings a bit. But I must confess that in reality a dummy could have made the bedroom look fabulous using the cute aqua blue, hot pink, green and orange bedding for girls that I picked up at a nice discount online.

PERSONALIZED NAME WALL DECOR for a KIDS ROOMS

personalized name wall decor for kids room

GO HERE FOR MORE

A personalized name is a cool option for wall decor for kids rooms no matter what their age. But when it comes to tween girls up to college age and beyond you may find that name stencils, decals or stickers are a perfect fit. You can have them customized in whatever font, size or style you need, frame them with soulful sayings and use them in lieu of expensive posters or art prints as frugal bedroom wall decorations.

Haven’t you noticed that once your child was able to write her name in script that she started to cover her belongings with her name. Chances are that if her name contained the letter "I" that it was dotted with hearts, flowers or smiley faces. And even if her name was lacking that particular letter, she managed to decorate the letters in some way. I remember decorating tops, sides and bottoms of each character so completely that even my mother had to study it closely to recognize it.

Once I left the preteen stage behind, I spent my teenage years blowing my name up into graffiti style letters. The lettering for the personalized name that I preferred looked like big, fluffy clouds or balloons that I drew on my book covers and notebooks. But I knew better than to use my art as wall decor in my room. My mother would have been really mad if I had messed up the paint!

Now there are ways of putting your child’s name on bedroom walls that won’t damage the paint. There are hanging wall letters and name decals that at most require a single tack or a sticky, removable hanger to install them wherever you need some personalized name wall decor for your kids room. You can also order custom name stencils that come with the cute hearts and flowers pre-cut and ready to paint if you want something more permanent than a sticker.

Hanging a baby's or child’s personalized name or letters on the bedroom or nursery wall is not just stylish. As funny as it sounds, I believe that it helps to build self esteem by giving them a sense of belonging. We all need our own space and when we are young maybe it makes us feel more secure to see our name on stuff that belongs to us. Surely there’s a reason that teenage girls spend so much time doodling their names on everything they own. We may as well expand the practice to include personalized names for wall decor.

Pink and green bedrooms for teens. There fore, teenage girls green and pink bedding sets, quilts and comforters are at the top of many a birthday or Christmas wish list. Stripes, polka dots and floral fabrics with funky pom pom trim all figure into this fashionable teen bedroom decorating trend.

One decorating mistake that I see most often in pink and green bedrooms for teens is the lack of a third all important color. It is my opinion that pink and green bedrooms are not shown to full advantage without an accent color to set the combination off.

You might be wondering what color would best pull off this magical decorating feat. To answer your question, there is no definite answer. Some like to bounce some perky, white daisies in the decor that allow the other shades to dominate and others prefer an accent color like purple that will stand out in a bold manner. And then who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too with purple daisies?

Throw in an eye catching hot pink area rug and some faux fur throw pillows to layer over the pillow shams and there you will have a pink and green bedroom that is worthy of a spread in a teen girls decorating magazine.

FUNKY STRIPES and POLKA DOTS A PURPLE, PINK and TURQUOISE COLOR SCHEME

Teenage bedding that features the popular combo of funky stripes and polka dots needs very little in the way of additional bedroom decorations to achieve a cool and colorful teen bedroom. The fanciful designs will tickle the fancy of young girls and keep the mood as frivoulous and fun as memories on the sandy beaches of summer late into the fall when she heads out for the college dorm room. I just love it because it’s cute, bright and lots of fun!

Some might fall in love with a duvet set simply because of the cute matching throw pillows or a contemporary lamp sporting a coordinating lamp shade or even a set of inexpensive tab-top curtains but what never fails to catch my eye is the fetching color combination. Purple, lime green turquoise, hot pink and white are what makes decorating ideas for teen girls bedrooms fun. Once funky stripes and polka dots girls bedding sets are tossed into the mix along with a pink shag area rug on the floor and lime green curtains as window treatments and it's far too cool a proposition for me to resist.

String some patio lights over the headboard, around the crown molding or across the top of the window treatments and throw a fluffy flokati rug on the floor with some huge faux fur throw pillows and I’m happy as a clam and I'm certain that teenage girls will love the bedding and bedroom decorations, too!

If you feel that lime green comforters is the best color that nature has to offer and if you consider teal as so much cooler than any other on the planet, then this set of custom sewn bedding might make your teenage girl approve of your bedroom decorating ideas without an argument for a change.

The comforter is retro, groovy and very, very BRIGHT. Once you complete the bedroom to coordinate with this bold set of bedding, you might want to keep a pair of sunglasses handy so that you won’t be blinded when you have to go in your teen’s room! It’s an eye catcher and that’s for sure. But isn’t that what teen and tween décor is all about? Having fun and doing something daring with your room that will be the envy of your friends? Once you put the pastels of childhood away, have a little fun before you have to switch gears to a more sophisticated style of decor.

If the lime green comforter with white and teal blue floral print doesn't ring your bell, the mix and match ruffled pillows and pillow shams should do the trick. The fabulous thing about this bedding set is that it's custom made which means that the drop of the bedskirt and the top of the comforter should fit perfectly no matter if you plan to use it on a daybed or contract a set for a California king bed.

PINK and GREEN POLKA DOTS, STRIPES and PAISLEY BEDDING

A specific request for a bedding set with pink and green polka dots is demanding enough, but throw in the recommendation that stripes and paisley patterns be included in the design and frankly that's enough to make a decorator's head spin.
The color scheme is a personal favorite of mine so I'm cool with that. But when you you start mixing and matching more than two fabric prints; you are stepping off into uncharted territory that requires the eye of a seasoned professional.

Decorating a teenage girl's bedroom using a hodgepodge of stylish patterns like the one that we were contemplating using green and pink polka dots and stripes plus a coordinating paisley print can be cute and fun to put together. The only drawback that it might take more time to find the best fabrics for the job than most tweens or preteen girls would appreciate.

Decorators will tell you that color schemes for the bedroom are pretty easy to perfect and in most cases this is an accurate statement. However, it takes even an expert a lot of time to mix and match fabrics colors, prints and patterns without creating a decorating nightmare. And then once the fabrics are on the design board, the decision on the best window treatments and decorations must be made.

The thing is that a custom pink and green polka dot bedding set is going to cost more than an inexpensive bed in a bag. And the hours that the interior decorator is on the job racking up time comparing yards and yards of pink and green striped and paisley fabrics to find one with a personality to suit the bedroom and that will be a perfect match with the funky pink and green polka dots that will be center stage so far as the bedroom's decor is concerned translates into additional cost.

If you are on a limited budget, perhaps the best plan of action will be to find a discount bed in a bag set that your daughter loves and personalize it a bit to make it your own creation. Consider custom bedding only when your bank account is flush with cash or there is absolutely no other way make your daughter happy.

FAIRY BEDDING SETS FOR PRETTY PRINCESS BEDROOMS

Fairy bedding sets are for the little girl that's not quite ready to let go of their teddy bears, baby dolls and stories of fairy tale princesses. For the young girl at the juncture between the preteen or tween years and the more sophisticated tastes of the teenage years, delicate beauty can sometimes suffice.

A responsible mom may not have been able to use her decorating ideas for her girl's bedroom earlier in the game with expensive or dainty accessories. It would be very disappointing to buy high end comforters, bedding or hand-painted furniture only to find them covered in finger paint or globs of play-doh.

However, the day may come when the sticky toys of children's games have been tucked away. This may be the best time for decorating with those silky fabrics and furniture with fine finishes before her girl decides she wants a style of bedroom decor that sets most parents' nerves on edge.

Fill the tween years with fairy bedding sets and decorating ideas for fairy wings and fluttering butterflies quickly before she reaches for the dark side of teen bedroom decor. Ornate iron beds with headboards painted with fantasy fairy princesses on swings combined with light and airy fairy bedding sets in pastels will delight mother and daughter.

Keep the colors of purple, pink and white with highlights of sparkling gold with fairy comforters and quilts made with preteens in mind. Or if you like hot pink more than pretty pastel colors, Laura Ashley has a lovely designer bedding collection for teen girls with touches of hot sugarplum pink as well as turquoise blue that will provide opportunities to accessorize and decorate your flower fairies bedroom with unusual and exciting color combinations.

Pink and Green Bedding for Tweens and Teens

Nothing is as fresh and pretty as a new set of pink and green bedding for a tween or teens bedroom. A patchwork quilt or comforter is stunning and not so country that your teen will object so long as you offer a color scheme that is appealing. Even if you rely on a retro paisly print or polka dots to sneak your favorite colors by your young lady, the result will be worth the compromise.

For a vintage feel, consider brushing the rust off of grandmother's old iron bed and giving it a modern look with some fresh white paint. If you don't have an authentic antique iron bed tucked away in storage, there are replicas that are just as good as the real article. If you shop carefully, you can find an ornate metal bed that's relatively inexpensive and fancy enough to provide a beautiful background for most any style of pink and green bedding that you desire.

You will be amazed at what a delightful set of pink and green bedding in bright spring-like colors and soft cuddly fabrics can do for an otherwise bland and boring teenage girls bedroom. Pretty green and pink bedding and bed in a bag sets is just one of many of the cool bedding sets for teens and tweens with multi-color stripes and polka dots on the teenage bedroom decorating scene today.

Whimsical polka dots on the top of the coverlets, sheets and comforters that resemble Lifesavers with a hollow center or solid dots and the design is repeated on the window valance. Yes indeed, spring is the very best time for inspiring teenage girl bedroom decorating ideas and for bedding sets in cotton candy colors offer a viritual dish of sweet delights for the rooms of teens and tweens in your home.

Let's see what decorating ideas for teens we can get from the pictures of the teens bedroom using this bedding collection. It's always hard to pick the best colors to paint the walls from photographs, but it seems that the decorator considered antique white or ivory not to be the best choice. The color that was used to paint the walls and the teen girl's simple small scale bedroom furniture seems to be a creamy yellow. The table lamp and rectangle area rug on the hardwood flooring are a creamy yellow tone as well. The only other area in the decorated room where the print from the bedding set is displayed appears to be the window treatments.

If the idea of repeating the designs of the pink and green polka dot bedding all over the room isn't appealing, consider mixing it up a bit with striped window panels or tab top valances with stripes of coordinating colors. Here's a decorating tip from the professionals; curtains with stripes have the ability to make a room with low or average ceiling height seem taller and therefore more spacious.

When decorating a preteen girl's small bedroom you need all the decorating tips and tricks in the book box to make a small room seem larger, taller and more roomy. Everything you use in the project needs to be scaled down a size or two. Even the polka dots on the pink and green bedding should be according to scale.

The bed, chairs and every other piece of furniture that you use in the room should be smaller in scale than your average run of the mill furnishings. The bedroom's decorations should be chosen to give the illusion of space as well. The star of the teenager's bedroom should be the funky teenage girl's pink and green bedding set with polka dots. But the layout of the room is about scale and the visuals of your completed bedroom decorating project.

Another decorating tip that I'd like to share that will give your teenage girl's bedroom texture without filling it with clutter is to bring in a variety of fabrics. In addition to your cotton pink and green bedding toss in some accent pillows in soft velour or velvet. The decorative accent pillows can pick up the various shades of pink and green from the hard candy and striped print of the bedding fabrics and curtains and add a whole new dimension to the tactile experience and make the room so cozy and comfortable.

The smaller sizes of rooms in modern homes make learning to decorate a teen girl's bedroom or any room of the home with appropriately scaled decorations very important. Cute pictures of teen's bedrooms like this one teach a valuable lesson in decorating so study all the details and have fun!

PINK and GREEN POLKA DOTS BEDDING for TEENS and TWEENS

Do the pink and green polka dots bedding and striped sheets in the pictures of this bright and colorful teen bedding set remind you of the sprinkles on top of an ice cream cone? What a perfect set of bedding for a tween or teen girl's bedroom; one that makes you remember happy days sitting at a little bistro licking the colored candy off the top of a couple of scoops of ice cream.

The walls in the photo are painted lime green which is the best color to use as a background for the whimsical pink and green polka dot print quilted comforter. The decorator chose different shades of pink for the accessories. And didn't she choose just the best accessories? A pale pastel pink princess phone right out of the 60s sits beside a modern, chrome base teen perfect table lamp with a hot pink faux fur lampshade! Don't you adore all those big, fluffy pom poms on the round pink area rug? The flip flops might indicate that this teenage girl just came in from the beach!

A simple white cotton bedskirt makes quick work of decorating this bed that would be just right for a small bedroom or a cramped dorm room. A vintage ice cream shop table and chairs that have been painted white with pink and green accents would make a perfect study nook if there's enough floor space to pull it off.

A chain lamp hung over the center of the table top would make excellent task lighting over a teen's books. Light fixtures hung from the ceiling offer lighting for a specific area of the room without eating up valuable floor space. When square footage is scarce and there's no room for floor lamps or more table lamps, mount a molly hook on the ceiling, hang your teen's lamp so her eyes won't hurt from long hours of hitting the books!

QUADRANT GREEN BEDDING

GO HERE FOR MORE!

This Quadrant green, black and gray bedding has such interesting shapes and patterns that the fabric color is almost overlooked. And to overlook the interesting combination of colors in this bedding fabric would be a shame. It's rare to come across such a blending of chartreuse, shades of gray and black. Doesn't the full modern print of the comforter look nice with the shiny sheets printed with a subdued stripe pattern? Think of all of the interesting(and cool) accessories that we can surround this collection with that will bring it around to a style of decor that your teen will love.

No matter what size bed that you are decorating there are comforters, duvet covers, pillow shams and decorative pillows to cover the entire surface of your girl's bed if you so choose. To make this comforter set appealing to the teenage crowd, the window treatments and the accent table cover will probably have to be tossed and replaced with rich, textured items including lots of fuzzy faux fur rugs, pillows and accessories.

Another way to decorate a bedroom for a young girl using this contemporary teen bedding would be to use metallics. You could pull the pewter tones from the bedding print and use it in selecting your table lamps, chandeliers or maybe some tabletop accessories. As there is just the tiniest sliver of silver in the fabric, shiny chrome accessories might be best. These are just basic decorating tips. The best way to proceed would be to select your favorite items in each finish and place them around the room in strategic locations and see which colors work best.

Select your decorative items on a temporary basis until you have an opportunity to make a visual appraisal of each. Once you decide whether you will be taking the chrome, pewter or even black wrought iron direction then you can begin to make decorating decisions on your more permanent decorations such as chandeliers, sconces and other light fixtures.

Here are some textures that I would love to try in this room that would make it less for an adult's bedroom and more for a teenage diva queen bee:
  • Black Satin Pillows
  • Black satin sheets
  • Black faux fur pillows and rugs

If it seems that most of my decorating tips for this bedroom involve BLACK stuff and lots of it, it's because I just love the contrast between the lime green bedding and black fabrics. Give it a try and send me pictures for the gallery!
